SideCar
Type: App, Rideshare How It Works: SideCar is a ride-matching app that connects ride seekers with vetted drivers nearby and available to give rides. Drivers are everyday folks driving their own cars, but an extensive interview process rules out the weirdos so you can feel safe and comfortable hopping in the passenger seat. Choose your pick-up and drop-off point, and drivers with their corresponding star rating and picture will pop up on a map, along with a suggested donation. You can request a specific driver, block a driver, or just choose the "closest driver" option before you confirm your ride. Once you confirm the ride, the closest driver or your driver of choice will be notified to swoop you. Track your driver using the same map on which you found them until they reach your pick-up location. Price: Payment is donation-based through credit card via the app. SideCar lists a constantly updated suggested donation based on what others are donating, usually less than a cab. Features:
  • Since it's a rideshare, you may also want to become a driver. Drivers keep 80% of earnings upon starting, and know before accepting a passenger where the passenger wants to go.
