Westridge-Canyonback Wilderness Park
For people of all fitness levels, this hike balances some steep hills with plenty of flat area in the Santa Monica Mountains from above and around Mulholland Drive between Encino and Brentwood. Get incredible 360-degree views of Los Angeles with the valley to the north, ocean to the west and out to downtown and beyond to the south and east. On clear days you can even see out to Catalina Island. The open trail means no tree covering to shield you from the rays on a hot day so make sure to wear sunblock. Access Points: 1) 17022 Mulholland Drive (at the top of Encino Hills Drive in Encino), park for free anywhere on the dirt road. Or 2) 2652 Westridge Road in Brentwood off of Mandeville Canyon Road (the access gate is just north of the street address at the end of the road), free parking is available at the trailhead past the gates. Distance: 3 miles roundtrip from the access point 1), 7.4 miles round-trip from access point 2). Dogs?: Yes and allowed off leash. [Photo via]
