With such establishments as La Descarga, The Bar, and Piano Bar on their list of claimed haunts, L.A.'s nightlife impresarios, twins Mark and Jonnie Houston, finally turn out born-again Stone Bar. Friday night, the Thai Town dive which the twins acquired roughly a year ago was rechristened as Harvard & Stone in an official celebration with the help of Rain Phoenix and Joaquin Phoenix.
After nearly a year of slow and steady revamping, it looks like the Houstons have finally unveiled their finished product with Harvard & Stone. The night, hosted by the elusive Joaquin Phoenix, also served album release for Papercranes, his sister Rain's band. Unfortunately, the I'm Not There star dipped out early so we didn't get a good look at him. Despite the missing Phoenix, Papercrane's melodic sounds fit perfectly with the atmosphere of Harvard & Stone, whose low key charm remains the same after its makeover.
