Best View In Venice: High Lounge at Hotel Erwin
If it's really your first time in Venice, you owe it to yourself to get over to the Hotel Erwin, where the rooftop High Lounge offers cocktails and small bites with what's got to be the best view south of Santa Monica. Especially on a weekend afternoon, it's great to sip (admittedly overpriced) cocktails and watch the circus of humanity on the Venice Beach boardwalk below.
The last time I was here, the Ultimate Arm Wrestling League tournament was happening right next to a 3-on-3 streetball tournament, which itself bordered on the Muscle Beach 'roidheads getting a power lift on, leading the guy sitting next to me to comment that we were watching the "Prison Olympics." Politically correct? No. Hilarious? Yes.
