Richard Gere

You may be surprised to learn that Pretty Woman heartthrob Richard Gere faced a 20-year ban from the Oscars after presenting in 1993. Going off-script at the ceremony, he used his time on stage to denounce the Chinese government's occupation of Tibet, calling it a "horrendous, horrendous human rights situation."

Though he did hit the red carpet back in 2003, the ban was officially over in 2013. That year, the star did indeed resume presenting duties alongside his Chicago cast mates - albeit without mention of global politics.
