At Fi3’s L.A. fashion and culture fair back in July, one menswear brand lassoed our attention—Freenote. The vintage-inspired clothing was well-tailored and almost uniform-like, but in an elegant fashion. Brothers Matt and Andrew Brodrick founded Freenote in 2013 in Southern California. The Brodricks worked with Electric, a premium eyewear and lifestyle company for ten years, building the brand. What separates Freenote from numerous California-based clothing companies, is that the company manufactures all its clothing in the States. The look is classic American menswear and made for men who appreciate quality and style. We had a chance to talk with the Brodricks about their company, their obsessions, and their stylish tips for guys.
Watching all of our favorite television celebs at the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards might just be the best cure for the Mondays. While the stars had us laughing on air last night, their Instagram photos gave us an even more hilarious view of what was really going on behind the scenes. From pre-show prepping to red carpet photobombs, click through for the best celebrity snaps of the Emmys.
While Sunday's VMAs saw some interesting red carpet looks, last night's Emmy Awards thankfully gave us three of our favorite things on the fashion front: glamour, glamour, and yes, more glamour. Television's biggest stars worked Nokia Theatre's sprawling red carpet in style, flaunting glittering couture straight off the runway. Click through for our top ensembles from the 66th Annual Emmys.
L'Art Projects debuted its second exhibition, À la Mode: Painted Method, this past weekend at a beautiful private home in the Hollywood Hills. The exhibition featured artists Erin Morrison, Jonathan Apgar, Ben Sanders, Molly Larkey, Ross McClain, Jake Longstreth, and Samantha Thomas, all of whom were in attendance. Collectors and guests snacked on mini apple pies and sipped Prosecco over conversations with curator Jennifer S. Li and the artists. Highlights included Jonathan Apgar's light-filled, multi-layered canvases, Ben Sanders' colorful and textured pop paintings, and an abstract sculpture by Molly Larkey that was specially commissioned by L'Art Projects. Recent UCLA MFA graduate Erin Morrison made a powerful showing with 3 large-scale, plaster-faced works in addition to a series of spray-painted stencil drawings. Samantha Thomas, featured last year in Art in America, stunned audiences with a salon-style hanging of nine small works, as well as a 3-dimensional wall hanging that was activated with light and shadow as the sun went down through the course of the evening. "Another great show!" said Winnie Lam, founder of L'Art Projects.
Overall, we have to admit that the fashion at last night's VMAs left something to be desired. Unlike years past, there were no standout moments that left us picking our jaws off the ground. The usual suspects stunned, while the expectedly controversial ladies had us thinking WTF. J. Lo proved she can still keep up with the Nicki Minajs of the world, Kim Kardshian gave us the typical TMC (too much cleavage) ensemble, and Taylor Swift donned an awkward body suit (trying) to channel her inner Beyonce. With all the VMA and Emmy celebrations in full swing this weekend, L.A. was a celebrity playground. Vanity Fair and Maybelline toasted to VEEP star Julia Louis Dreyfus, Entertainment Weekly and Showtime both hosted pre-Emmy bashes attended by the likes of Lizzy Caplan, Laverne Cox, and Jon Voight, the 2014 MTV VMAs brought music's biggest names together, and much more!
For the social media generation, the fact that an award show is aired live just isn't enough anymore. We need pre-coverage, post-coverage, and (most importantly) Insta-coverage. Thankfully, celebrities were getting their snap on during last night's VMAs, posting everything from red carpet moments to backstage selfies all night long. Click through for some of our favorite celebrity Instagrams of the 2014 VMAs, featuring J.Lo, Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, and more!
With the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards a week away, we're taking some time to reminisce on the fun and excitement from last year's amazing show. From Jimmy Fallon's epic hosting skills to funny girls Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's crazy antics, we can only hope this year's ceremony will live up to the 2013 broadcast. To help get you in the mood for next Monday's show, click through for a look back at some of our favorite behind-the-scenes Instagram moments from last year. More>>
