Interview with Cameron Monaghan ("Shameless", The Giver):
GofG: The Giver is somewhat considered a modern classic now. What was it like for you to be in the film adaptation for such a prominent book?
Cameron Monaghan: On one hand daunting, and on the other hand incredibly exciting. Obviously it's become such a precious book in American culture. It's taught in schools, it's renowned, it's loved. I actually hadn't had a chance to read it until I was auditioning for the part. Once I read it, I immediately got why. I guess I just wanted to make the best that I could with them. I really liked the ideas that Phillip [Noyce] discussed with me.
GofG: What do you see being the importance in highlighting these up and coming short film creators?
CM: Not only are short films a great proxy for filmmakers to then transition into longer form media, but they're also something to be celebrated in their own right. It's kind of the art that I think is going to be coming back in a greater fashion because of the internet aspect, and because people like to watch videos & short bits. So it's important to celebrate what these filmmakers are doing now.
