Why: Known for its strong German brews with equally hard to pronounce German names, this Silver Lake hangout offers an escape from the pretentious hipster runoff that trickles into the majority of the neighborhood's other bars. While we thoroughly enjoy its indoor atmosphere during the cooler months, Red Lion has a fantastic outdoor seating area on the traditional-style rooftop biergarten where its happy hour will have
frauleins decked in German dirndl dresses serving you as you as you catch the day's final rays. During happy hour held Monday through Friday from 3-6pm, all drinks are 25% off, which gives you the opportunity to try several of their specialty German beers. I recommend the Spaten Optimator which rings in at a whopping 7.2% alcohol and has a rich roasted malt flavor. Oh, and if all that doesn't have you dusting off your boot glass then a free buffet of bar snacks that changes daily might do the trick.
