Kurt Vile @ Largo
From his beginnings as a founding member of indie rockers The War On Drugs to the lean years, where he was driving a forklift to his breakthrough with last year's Smoke Ring For My Halo, Kurt Vile has always worn his low key grunge-folk influences on his sleeve, and for the lean years when he couldn't find a fanbase and was driving a forklift to make ends meet, that might have seemed detrimental. But it's that unwillingness to compromise his sound that's put Vile in the spotlight now, with Smoke Ring making almost every influential "Best of 2011" and rocketing him into the big time, and the music, sardonic lo-fi but always musically rich tunes with just the right amount of sneer, are all the richer for it. He plays Largo at the Coronet solo, without his standard backing band. It should be a great experience. [Details] [via]
