We know we've said this before, but outdoor concerts are one of our favorite things about summer. Listening to live music is always a treat; add a beautiful outdoor stage and free admission and you're set for a pretty amazing night. That was definitely the case last night for the audience who enjoyed a Ryan Bingham and The Dead Horses show under the stars at Levitt Pavilion in Pasadena. Every summer the Levitt Pavilion puts on a summer series of free outdoor concerts at the Memorial Park band shell in Old Pasadena. The series brings all different types of people together to share nights of gorgeous weather, a friendly atmosphere of community, and great music. This summer the series has a folk/rock theme with performances by artists like The Alternate Routes, John McEuen, and Danielia Cotton.

Ryan Bingham and the Dead Horses aren't just your run of the mill folk band. Bingham took home an Oscar for Best Original Song in 2010 for their music in Crazy Heart, not to mention a Golden Globe for Best Original Song in 2010. Last night, Bingham charmed the crowd with his raspy Tom Waits-esque voice while his band backed him up with their beautiful instrumentals.

Grab your friends and some lawn chairs, and be sure to catch the rest of the free concert series in August!
