Comic books are notorious dork magnets...that being said, who hasn't at one point or another yearned for the next chapter in their favorite superhero's tale. Being the New Yorkers that we are, our favorite superhero has always been Batman. Dennis O’Neill, a former writer and editor for DC Comics, has said that,
"Batman's Gotham City is Manhattan below Fourteenth Street at eleven minutes past midnight on the coldest night in November."
The last one, Batman Begins, was a much darker and more sinister version of the tale, but it also brought a heightened sense of reality to the caped-crusader’s story. That is why we were thrilled after seeing the trailer for the next portion of the Batman series, The Dark Knight, which looks like it will pick up right where the last one left off. This one also looks like it will even feel more allusionary to New York when you look at the cast. Christian Bale will again play Bruce Wayne, (New York's first Patrick Bateman), Heath Ledger will be Joker, (famed Williamsburger). Cool New York Mommy Maggie Gyllenhal will play Rachel Dawes, (so happy to see Katie Holmes go), and Aaron Eckhart, (our favorite little New York smoker), will play district attorney Harvey Dent- who any true Batman fan knows will later become the infamous Two-Face. Originally, we were skeptical about Heath Ledger playing the Joker, but after seeing him in costume in the trailer, and hearing his creepy voiceovers in the background....we are confident that he will send us clinging to our seats. So while you will have to wait until July for the full-length movie, check out the trailer above for a quick fix.
