"Best 2K I Ever Spent" The Native Society's Winter Event

by Ross Kenneth Urken · February 24, 2011

The Native Society, the rich kids social network we've been chronicling, has released photos of its "Winter Event." The black tie affair took place at at the Plaza's Rose Club and included the usual cast of characters for which this social network has become notorious. Dj Price and DJ Ted Gushue manned the decks as the members cut through a thick layer of their affectations to dance. In supreme allegiance to tNS's commitment to extravagance, they also wagered their G's on the baubles in a jewelry silent auction with pieces by Bulgari, Cartier, Chanel, and Van Cleef & Arpels.

The gentleman on the left felt like this was Casino Royale. The Native Society lives not at all, if not large.

Attendees bid on pieces like a Fred 18-karat white gold and diamond bracelet with a retail price of $56,000 or Asprey, 18-karat white gold, onyx, and diamond cuff links with a retail price of $4,600. If you're going to roll with the Native Society, roll deep.

Oliver Estreich, the founder of tNS and central character in this whole New York society plot, flashed his trademark grimace. He forewent the powder blue turtle neck and single malt Scotch Whiskey he's been known to favor in deference to a classy, pin-striped blazer and a Native Society T-shirt for good school spirit and a glassless pose. He maintained, indubitably, his debonair aura.

It wasn't Truman Capote's black and white ball, but the invitation let on as much...

It takes a native sensibility to serve as the apotheoses of New York fashion and society.

Below: the Native Society members in their "natural" habitat. They tend to be found in plaid blazers and cocktail dresses with the guys having a little bit of scruff protruding from their cherubic cheeks. "Don't make money," the motto might go. "Inherit it."
