At one point last night, after popping in a bite-sized potato topped with caviar, I told a regal-looking gentleman in a tux that the Frick always feels like a vacation out of the city, to someplace royal, elegant. He agreed, of course, as we stood leaning against a column and looking across the garden court. And this was before we were ushered into the galleries for dinner, where impeccable tables lined the rooms among priceless portraits, gushing with floral arrangements fit for fall by Putnam & Putnam. This year's Autumn Dinner at the Upper East Side mansion and museum honored artist and writer Edmund de Waal and saw the likes of A-list attendees like Carolina Herrera. The black tie event brought out the best dressed in every attendee, making it hard to decide whether to gaze at the paintings, or the gowns.
