| Description |
New York-born visual artist Pat Conlon will make his debut at GalleryBar on the Lower East Side (120 Orchard Street between Rivington and Delancey) with the opening of his new exhibit entitled Works of Women on December 2, 2009 at 7:00 PM. The exhibit, which consists of hand painted depictions of women on used outdoor ad signage, speaks to the artist’s fascination with advertising, visual impressions and modern day consumer culture.
Works of Women is made up of a compilation of still images of female subjects at different stages of climax appropriated from the web. The images, painted over used ad signage, were created using billboard-sized pieces of vinyl (30 ft. x 60 ft.) and acrylic based paints. Sections from each ad were pulled over stretcher board in order to paint the images of the women that appear in each work.
