A cocktail party to benefit and raise funds for The EarthWater Institute. There is minimum donation of $200 for attendees, and $1000 for those not coming. 100% of which will go towards funding the Institute's work advancing fresh water research and development around the world. Persistent regional drought, rapid coastal urbanization, and failures in management have placed unprecedented stress on the Earth’s fresh water supply. By 2050, half the global population will face water shortages, and 1.1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water today. With 55 nations failing to meet their water-related Millennium Development Goals, the United Nations recently declared a “Global Water Crisis”. The human suffering that flows from the crisis is staggering: water is an essential element for health and development everywhere. Statistics detailing the global water crisis are plentiful; solutions are not. The EarthWater Institute was created to redefine our water problem and, in so doing, help to solve our water crisis. Our mission is twofold: (1) to be at the forefront of fresh water research, and (2) to develop new, sustainable groundwater resources in rural communities throughout the developing world. For too long, our knowledge of geological and hydrological processes has been grounded in anachronistic scientific concepts and questionable underlying models. Inadequate and outdated data in the water community is the basis for poor management, and collaboration among the relevant parties will help to eliminate this fundamental disconnect. In addition to the completion of a “Global Water Audit”, and other applied research projects, the EarthWater Institute will develop new, sustainable groundwater resources in rural communities around the world. Local water-use education programs and social work performed in collaboration with NGOs and development organizations will augment the benefits of a new and renewable source of fresh water. The EarthWater Institute is a platform for collaboration: we invite others — academics, scientists, foundations, corporations, governments and NGO’s alike — to help us meet this great challenge. The marriage of modern groundwater exploration concepts and methods with such a platform can lead the Blue Revolution we so desperately need. Details on the cocktail party and information on the Institute is online at www.EarthWaterInstitute.org. PLEASE NOTE THE MINIMUM DONATION IS $200 TO ATTEND. As a 501(c)3 charity, all of our work is funded by donations. RSVP: CL@EarthWaterInstitute.org
