Steuben Glass will host a reception for Elephants In Crisis (EIC), a non-profit organization with programs that protect elephants around the world, at the Steuben Gallery in New York (667 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10065) on October 13, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event kicks off an Elephants In Crisis exhibition that the Steuben Gallery will show October 7 — November 5.
In attendance will be Elephants In Crisis supporters and the EIC Board of Directors, including President Dr. Paul Irwin.
Dr. Irwin is a celebrated activist and leader in the international animal welfare and protection movement. Previously, he was President of the Humane Society of the United States where he worked on animal issues for 30 years. He authored Losing Paradise: The Growing Threat to Our Animals, Our Environment, and Ourselves. The book is a frightening look at the growing signs of ecological catastrophe and an inspiring vision of the steps we can take to overcome them.
EIC’s programs to rescue elephants from crisis include Stop Elephant Poaching, Stop Elephant Slavery, Free Zoo Elephants, and End Circus Exploitation.
EIC’s flagship project is the Cambodian Wildlife Sanctuary, which was created, in partnership with the government of Cambodia, to protect elephants and other endangered animals of the region and to conserve their natural habitat. More than one million acres of this rich forest landscape and its diverse wildlife population are now protected by the sanctuary.
The Elephants In Crisis exhibition will include photos by acclaimed wildlife photographer Tim Cushan from his “Elephant Skin” series, as well as other images and information about the plight of elephants around the world and Elephants In Crisis programs to protect the animals.
