On Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at 12:30pm. The Hispanic Society of America will celebrate a Champagne Brunch and Museum Tour at The Hispanic Society of America Museum and Library located on Broadway between 155th and 156th Streets.
Since its founding in 1904 by the American scholar and philanthropist Archer M. Huntington, the Hispanic Society has promoted the study of the rich arts and culture of Spain and its areas of influence in Latin America and throughout the world. The Society’s museum and library collections include nearly a million works, unparalleled in their scope and quality in the United States.
Supporters of the Hispanic Society of America will enjoy a recital by soprano soloist Lola Montenegro of the Escorial monastery in Madrid. Ms. Montenegro is an award winning poet and composer. She will perform, for the first time ever in the United States, a selection of works in which she has set her own poetry and that of the 20th-century poet, Miguel Hernández, to traditional Spanish music. She will be accompanied by renowned pianist Adrián Viudes and celebrated flamenco guitarist Manolus MarÃn, mentor to Alejandro Sanz.
