Where the Wild Things Are author Maurice Sendak, director Spike Jonze, and Max Records, star of the new film based on the beloved children’s book, join City officials and dozens of second and third-graders wearing crowns to name two City streets in Greenwich Village on Wednesday, October 14 at 12:00 PM outside the Jefferson Market Library at 425 Avenue of the Americas, near Christopher Street in Manhattan. New York City will temporarily name the corner of Greenwich Avenue and Christopher Street “Maurice Sendak Way” and “Wild Things Way” to honor Sendak as part of “Wild Things Week in NYC.” The author grew up in Brooklyn and wrote the classic tale while living in Greenwich Village.
City officials include NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta and Deputy Chancellor for Teaching and Learning, Santiago Taveras, who will discuss the new curriculum the City has created based on the classic book.
