| Description |
Co-curated by filmmaker Jackie Raynal, this series is dedicated to Véra Belmont, one of French cinema's most important producers and filmmakers.
'Farinelli' was the greatest castrato of the 18th century—a distinction that proved to be a gift and curse. Through this sumptuous spectacle of a film, Corbiau explores the complicated relationships Farinelli maintained with his family and, particularly, the scores of women who loved him. Best Foreign Film at the Golden Globes in 1995.
Shown at 12:30 and 7:30pm.
'Marquise' : Though she started as an actress and later became a producer, Belmont has also found success as a director. With Marquise, Belmont vibrantly recreates 17th-century France to tell the story of the young woman who romanced Racine and performed with Molière. In the title role, Sophie Marceau is entirely winning.
Shown at 4pm.
