Description
INVEN.TORY EXHIBITION the point suite pop-up show curated by Justine Durrett directed by Ghislaine Cardon Opening Reception Friday, April 23, 6-9pm On View: April 23 - May 14, 2010 Please join us on the evening of April 23 for the opening of INVEN.TORY EXHIBITION, a pop-up show in support of the Point Suite Art Book. INVEN.TORY EXHIBITION is an innovative collaboration between the Point Suite and the NoLita fashion boutique INVEN.TORY. Through this partnership, Point Suite and INVEN.TORY would like to invite visitors and shoppers alike to contemplate the crossovers that lie between contemporary art and fashion. This exhibition is a celebration of this confluence of creativities, as well as an exciting endeavor to ’paint beyond the lines’ of traditional art installation by choosing this uncommon loft-like downtown space; the overall effect ending in a rare opportunity for the public eye to discover these art works in a new and creative light. INVENT.TORY EXHIBITION will showcase a selection of works taken from the Point Suite Art Book. Founded in 2008, Active Ideas Productions, which is organizing the publication of Point Suite, is a rising organization whose mission is to serve the artistic community by exposing emerging artists and informing the public about their work. The forty artists selected for the Point Suite Art Book all draw inspiration from contemporary culture, be it the ever-changing architectural as well as natural landscapes of our planet, evolving gender roles, or urban street culture. In this particular exhibition, these themes are encountered and explored through a variety of media: a monumental installation by Nicholas Papadakis combines the aesthetics and scale of billboards with the primeval figurative forms of his erosion paintings; Jason Peters, in a site-specific intervention, challenges our intrinsic perception of reality by subverting relationships of space, environment and common materials; paintings by Megan Burns and James Wolanin examine the female figure through bold, graphic lines; Mark Dye and Melanie Jelacic reinvent everyday objects as unexpected and evocative sculptures; and Annika Connor and Tom Costa find beauty in the decaying space between the built environment and the natural world. INVEN.TORY, which will open its doors to welcome these artists and exhibit their work, is a fashion outlet of more than 40 curated brands that include both men and women's clothing, footwear and accessories. The brand mix changes almost daily as brands and styles are sold out and replaced by newer arrivals. Their product includes overstock merchandise at wholesale prices, full retail brands at affordable price points as well as special collaborative cuts and vintage pieces that are sold only by INVEN.TORY.
