BROOKLYN GALLERY TO HOST EPIC EXHIBIT OF SANDBLASTED GLASS PIPE ART
Political artist Slinger uses culture jamming techniquesto subvert consumerism through his body of work.
Easy Street Gallery proudly presents Repeater, the contemporary work of its most widely-known resident artist, Slinger. His work is highly influenced by Warhol and evokes connection through its
conceptual depiction of popculture imagery. Slinger attempts to reclaim the space taken from us by mainstream media by deconstructing traditional forms with political and personal statements. ’I just want to do something different and challenge how people think about art,’ Slinger protests.
Pipe-making is a controversial medium, but Slinger’s vision is to express himself so glass pipe art can finally get its deserved recognition as fine art. ’Slinger uses glass as the canvas for his works. The pipe is just one of the most popular,’ comments Easy Street owner Ian Kerr. Patrons to this exhibit should expect to see his interpretation of recognizable popculture art imagery combined with his outspoken views of what art can be. These daring and bold statements will be seen in his well-known works such as Assault Girl and Dali Sidecar. Beginning with a free exhibit launch party on Saturday, April 10, at 7p.m., Repeater will be displayed until May 12, 2010.
