Curry Economics: Food as a Driving Force of Economic Development Join Sasha Issenberg, author of The Sushi Economy, as he moderates a panel discussion featuring Tom Standage, author of An Edible History of Humanity; Eric Tagliacozzo, author of Secret Trades, Porous Borders: Smuggling and States Along a Southeast Asian Frontier; and Julie Sahni, whose books include Classic Indian Cooking. The discussion will focus on food as a driving force behind economic expansion, industrial development, and geopolitical competition Among other topics, guests will hear about how the legendary Silk Road, a major trade route for foodstuffs such as spices, became an information network that spread ideas and bridged cultures.
