Please join us on July 29, 2010 from 5-8 pm for the first annual Chelsea Art Walk, a cooperative event organized by over 25 galleries throughout northwest Chelsea. With busy summer schedules, it can be difficult to make the trip to Chelsea during regular business hours. Participating galleries will offer extended hours and special events that showcase the vibrancy of the summer arts scene in Chelsea, while local sponsors will offer food and drink specials throughout the evening.
Don’t miss P.P.O.W’s ’Young Curators’ meet and greet and site-specific dance performance entitled ’Narrow Angle’ choreographed by Douglas Dunn and commissioned by Gabriella Hiatt at 7:15 pm. Also, from 6-8 pm at Benrimon Contemporary, graffiti artist Phetus, will do a live demonstration and artist talk discussing his more commercial ventures like his iPhone app and comic book series. Stop by Sputnik Gallery for authentic Russian pierogies, and a drawing for three art books, two copies of Oleg Videnin’s ’The Journey Home’ and one copy of Boris Smelov’s ’A Retrospective.’ Additional events throughout the evening include a book signing by artist Martin Schoeller at Hasted Hunt Kraeutler, a limited edition print giveaway and book signing at Michael Mazzeo Gallery, a closing reception for the exhibition Vapor Trails by Michael Ronnen Safdie at Andrea Meislin Gallery, and a poetry reading and series of artist’s talks at Noho Gallery. Talks by the artists Rene Lynch and Sonya Sklaroff featured in the exhibition Summertime… will be heard at Jenkins Johnson Gallery, and Bruce Silverstein will host a ’BYOB - Buy Your Own Book’ event where limited edition books and prints will be offered at special discount prices.
Event sponsors include B.E.S (559 West 22nd Street at 11th Avenue) who will be hosting an after party to cap off the evening with drink specials from 8-10 pm, Le Gamin Café/Creperie serving crepes all night at ClampArt (521-531 West 25th Street), Three Tarts Bakery (164 9th Avenue at 20th Street), offering 15% off homemade lemonade and ice cream sandwiches and 10% off of giftware, and Tia Pol (205 10th Avenue at 22nd Street), offering half priced pitchers of Sangria when two people come in for dinner. Also keep an eye out for Cupcake Stop, and the Van Leeuwan Ice Cream Truck, both of which will be circulating the Chelsea area.
