Transit Museum Summer 2010 Nostalgia Train Excursions:
The first trip is almost sold out…space is still available on the remaining two scheduled for July and August.
Escape the stress and spend a day in the relaxing world of Nostalgia, onboard the New York Transit Museum’s subway and bus fleet. Usually on static display in the Museum or featured in Annual Bus Festivals, the public now has an opportunity to ride select vintage subway cars and buses with all the sights and sounds of yesteryear. All trips this year (10 AM to 5 PM) depart from the New York Transit Museum’s decommissioned ’Court Street’ subway station in Brooklyn Heights.
June 6, 2010, ’The Lo-V’s Take a Spin’ offering a rare fan-trip experience with numerous photo-ops of train sets that date back to the early 1900s.
The R 1/9s are ’Coney Island Bound,’ on July 31st for a day of fun at the beach or additional rides on-board the pre-WWll subway cars with soft seating, ceiling fans and fanciful advertising from the 30s and 40s.
Catch a double dose of Nostalgia on August 21, 2010, as the vintage R 1/9 subway cars travel to the ’Rockaways by Rail and Bus.’ Select vintage buses from the 40s and 50s will offer day-long rides at the Rockaways, with an option to ride the train back a the end of the day or for an additional fee ride the bus fleet across Jamaica Bay through Brooklyn ending at the Broadway Junction, at the ’A’ subway line in East New York.
Although the first excursion in June is almost sold out, there is still space on the July and August 2010 trips. Tickets are: $45 Adults; $20 Children; $30 Museum Members; $15 Children of Members. Call (718) 694-1867. Strollers are not permitted.
