Description
Featuring a special performance by Tony winner Joanna Gleason of ’I Hate My Purse’ - a scene from the hit Off Broadway play Love, Loss, and What I Wore by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron. The fashionable event—a highlight of Lupus Awareness Month in New York City—will feature a silent auction of many of today’s most sought after celebrity and designer handbags to raise funds—and attention—for the fight against lupus. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on hundreds of bags at significantly reduced prices, donated by stars from Desperate Housewives, How I Met Your Mother, and The Good Wife, and the latest from Gucci, Chanel, Valentino, and other top designers. Meredith Vieira, Lauren Groff, Andrea Jung, and Jessye Norman will serve as honorary chairs. Proceeds from the Luncheon will support lupus research, awareness, and support services through the S.L.E. Lupus Foundation. Marking its 40th anniversary year, the Foundation is a lifeline for people with lupus—an under-publicized yet widespread, and potentially life-threatening autoimmune disease. Lupus primarily targets women between the ages of 15 and 44, among whom it is a leading cause of premature heart disease, kidney disease and stroke. Individual tickets for the 2010 New York Bag Ladies Luncheon start at $250 with tables of eight at $5,000, $10,000 and $15,000. Tickets can be purchased online at LupusNY.org or by phone at 212-685-4118. Advance reservations are required.
