| Description |
Sputnik Gallery is proud to present The Shining by Anton Litvin. In his newest series, Anton Litvin translates images of Orthodox church domes, a subject typical of banal and amateur paintings, into intriguing photographs resembling abstract expressionist paintings. These gold-leaf church domes are one of the most important symbols of Russia, yet Litvin successfully raises the question of genuineness, authenticity and simulation by exposing the use of synthetic gilding, artificial and cheaper, but at the same time strong and representative. Anton Litvin currently lives and works in Moscow, Russia. He has been widely exhibited in Russia and throughout Europe in both solo, group and performance shows, represented Russia in the 2005 Venice Biennale as a member of the Escape program, and was a Kandinsky Prize 2008 Media Project of the Year Nominee. His work is part of many private collections throughout the world. Sputnik Gallery promotes contemporary photography, as well as other contemporary art, by emerging and accomplished artists largely unknown outside of Russia.
