Description
A festive black-tie dinner celebrates the 50th anniversary of Storm King Art Center—one of the world's premier and best-loved sculpture parks. The evening will begin with a convivial cocktail reception for some 300 guests, drawn from the worlds of art, culture, and philanthropy. Dinner will follow, catered by Great Performances. The program, introduced by Warren Weitman, Chairman of Sotheby's North and South America, will include remarks by artists Mark di Suvero, Maya Lin, and Ursula von Rydingsvard and critic and art historian Michael Brenson. Marilyn Perry, past president of the Kress Foundation and chairman emerita of the World Monuments Fund, will offer a special tribute to Storm King Co-founder H. Peter Stern, who has been the organization's chairman for fifty years. John P. Stern, president of Storm King, will be master of ceremonies. The evening will conclude with a live auction conducted by Sotheby's auctioneer Hugh Hildesley. Items will include a private tour of Chatsworth House, the magnificent art-filled estate of the Dukes of Devonshire since 1549. The tour of the estate, which is located on the pastoral banks of the River Derwent, in Derbyshire, England, will be hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire themselves. The auction will also feature a print by Richard Serra and a Butterfly Chair by Johnny Swing, among other items. All proceeds from the Gala will benefit the newly established Fund for the Conservation of Sculpture at the Storm King Art Center.
