Nordic Models + Common Ground blurs the conventional, disciplinary boundaries between art and design and commences dual anniversary celebrations for The American Scandanavian Foundation and Scandinavia House.
The last decade and a half have witnessed a revitalization of Nordic design on a global scale. The great post-war masters are celebrated alongside fresh, exciting talent, proud of their roots and rich in design heritage. Inspired by the collaborative dynamic of the Nordic nations and its commitment to socially-responsible design, the show features an enterprising blend of emerging, youthful talent alongside established artists and designers, among them: Atelier Oslo, Norway; Daniel Rybakken, Norway; Louise Campbell, Denmark; JKMM Architects, Finland; Hans Johannsson, Iceland; and Lars Tunbjörk, Sweden, and explores how open artistic and cultural exchange facilitates innovation in art and design.
Organized by Norsk Form and curated by Snøhetta, this extensive exhibition offers a visionary look at contemporary Nordic design in all its manifestations and articulates nascent trends as they impact the global design community.
Nordic Models + Common Ground was made possible by support from William B. and Inger Gundersen Ginsberg; The Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation; the ASF Centennial Fund; the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in New York; and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
