Publicolor, the esteemed not-for-profit education innovator celebrates 15 years creating safe and inspiring environments for learning in New York City's most underserved public schools and communities. The evening's events include colorful cocktails and painting of original artworks (Tyvek jumpsuits provided) alongside the Publicolor students under the direction of some of the country's most talented artists, architects + designers including artist Ross Bleckner + Michelle Oka Doner, fashion designers Nicole Miller, Patrick Robinson + Jeffrey Banks, interior designers Jamie Drake + Vicente Wolf, book designer/author Chip Kidd and others. After the seated dinner, Ruth Lande Shuman (Founder + President) + Deven Parekh (Board Chair) will introduce the 2011 Honorees: CNN's Soledad O'Brien and The Estée Lauder Volunteers, represented by Sr. Vice-President Deborah Krulewitch. After the awards a Live Auction of the artworks created earlier in the evening will be conducted for the benefit of Publicolor's College Scholarship Fund by Swann Galleries President, Nicholas Lowry. Many othe rauction items to support Publicolor are available from April 14 -through May 3rd on the website CharityBUZZ.com
Publicolor engages high-risk public school students in their education through the use of color, collaboration and the discipline of the commercial painting process. Publicolor teaches marketable and transferable skills, addressing the root causes of poverty in America: the undereducation and lack of job preparedness of our youth. 'From Paint Can to College' - Publicolor students do not drop out!
