Description
CATM Chelsea Gallery 500 West 22nd Street (Corner of 10th Avenue) New York, NY 10011 THE SHOW ”˜America for Real’ is a look at the dichotomy of what America was created as by our forefathers; opposed to what America stands for in the 21st Century. The American flag has become a marketing tool utilized by both the government and big business alike reflecting their partnership to provide us with a symbol that is euphoric. Today, the American flag is waived as a sword in which those who dare to disagree may be in danger. One thing is for sure, the flag is a powerful image used for proof of your patriotism, and though we may be up take for the challenge, the flag itself behaves divided - like our country. Red against Blue. White against Black. Straight against Gay. We are all Americans. We are what makes up a United States. History has demonstrated that divided we fall. Betsy Ross sat down and with great pride and hope sowed a flag representative of a nation. In respect to this great nation ask yourselves : ’Are we really proud? Or, have we lost our way? Is America really about freedom and the pursuit of happiness for all or for some?’ These flags are both reflection and commentary on what we have become. The things we fight for about tell us who we are. THE ARTIST ’The American Flag is my canvas. It's color and majesty is what I grew up with; it wrapped me with a sense of pride.... A sense of responsibility which I carry with me everyday. I fervently believe that this nation is full of opportunities limited only by one's imagination. Yet, it is imperative for us to remember, that what America stood for, and what America stands for both domestically and internationally is in danger because of some of its own people.  We have permitted our politicians to lead us out of fear and hate. I believe if you can't lead with love you can't lead at all. Just imagine.’ -Artist Rebecca Zagoory THE MESSAGE ’We at The NexTToMe Foundation are proud to support an artist with such a powerful message filled with thought, passion and hope. America is a symbol not just for Americans but for uncounted millions around the world. A shinning beacon of a better world - a better life. To be an American is to believe in this symbol.  As American(s) worldwide we must stand united to fight against the causes which haunt us all and affect us as people regardless of race, religion, color, or flag. That is why we are proud to announce Rebecca’s commitment to fight against a cause which affects us all - cancer. Through the sale of her Art, where a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to the Sloan Kettering Memorial, many will be reminded that Americans, all over the world, hold the dream of this country close to their hearts ; a dream where we never forget those who need us the most.’ - Paul L. R. Du Bois, Artistic Consultant & Curator Founder of The NexTToMe Foundation
