Description
The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), New York's premiere French cultural center, is proud to present a new CinémaTuesdays series celebrating the rich history of women’s filmmaking in France. This February and March, Cinéma des femmes: Perspectives on Women Filmmakers will explore a carefully curated cross-section of female voices that represents a more eclectic list than the expected canon, and includes a U.S. premiere as well as an in-person appearance by one of France’s most acclaimed young directors, Mia Hansen-Love, to present her debut feature All Is Forgiven (Tout est pardonné). Fire Class Midwife - Shorts by the pioneering filmmaker Alice Guy Blaché—the first female director and studio head—preface many of the features in this series. In First Class Midwife, a young couple is looking to add a baby to their family. How perfect, then, to stumble upon a store that sells them! Life Begins Tomorrow - An extremely rare screening of this fascinating, unclassifiable film, which imagines the future of 21st century living through the images and words of France’s great cultural ambassadors—Sartre, Le Corbusier, Picasso, and a score of others. ’A cinematic symposium on the current social status of civilized man…the form of presentation is interesting and intelligent.’—The New York Times
