Ludovic Morlot To Conduct the New York Philharmonic in Works by Musorgsky, Walton, and Ravel, June 16—18 Gil Shaham To Perform Walton’s Violin Concerto Music Director Alan Gilbert To Join Philharmonic Musicians in Mozart String Quintet, Saturday Matinee, June 18, at 2:00 p.m. NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC MUSIC DIRECTOR TO JOIN PHILHARMONIC MUSICIANS IN MOZART STRING QUINTET, SATURDAY MATINEE, JUNE 18, 2011, AT 2:00 P.M. Mr. Morlot To Conduct Second Half of Saturday Matinee Concert, Comprising Ravel’s Pavane Pour une Infante Défunte and Musorgsky/Ravel’s Pictures at an Exhibition Ludovic Morlot, the French-born conductor who made his surprise debut with the New York Philharmonic in March 2006 when he stepped in for an indisposed scheduled conductor, will lead the Orchestra in the Prelude to Musorgsky’s Khovanshchina; Walton’s Violin Concerto, with Gil Shaham as soloist; Ravel’s Pavane pour une infant défunte; and Musorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, orchestrated by Ravel, Thursday, June 15, 2011, at 7:30 p.m., Friday, June 17, at 11:00 a.m., and Saturday, June 18, at 8:00 p.m. For the third time since he became Music Director, Alan Gilbert will join Philharmonic musicians on a Saturday Matinee Concert for a chamber work in the first half of the program. On Saturday, June 18, at 2:00 p.m., he will play the viola in Mozart’s String Quintet in D major, K.593, joining violinists Glenn Dicterow and Sheryl Staples; violist Cynthia Phelps; and cellist Carter Brey. Mr. Gilbert performed on the violin with Orchestra musicians on the Saturday Matinee, October 31, 2009, and, on the viola on June 12, 2010. The second half of the June 18 program will feature Ravel’s Pavane pour une infant défunte, and Musorgsky/Ravel’s Pictures at an Exhibition, conducted by Mr. Morlot.
