Description
The Children’s Museum of the Arts' (CMA) Art Auction 2011 will benefit a range of free art programs for underserved children and teens. Paddle8’s Alexander Gilkes will lead live and silent auctions featuring pieces by Andy Warhol, Cecily Brown, William Quigley, Yoko Ono, James Nares, and 95 other established and emerging artists. More than 500 of the museum’s loyal patrons are expected to attend the event, celebrating CMA’s mission to bring the arts to all children and their communities. Art Auction 2011 co-hosts include co-chairs Cynthia Rowley and Bill Powers, Simon De Pury, Yvonne Force Villareal, and artist chairs Garland Hunter and Matthew Ritchie. The event will feature hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and music. Art Auction 2011 is presented by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and Goldman Sachs, with special thanks to Bloomingdale’s, Bulldog Gin, Champagne Henriot and Brooklyn Brewery. Opened in the fall of 2011, CMA's new 11,000-square-foot facility at 103 Charlton St. is more than double the size of its former home. The new space enables CMA to serve thousands more New York City children and visitors each year. It is significant to note that 30 percent of that audience is served for free and more than 7,000 public school students will access CMA’s programs for free through partnerships including NYC’s Cultural After School Adventures (CASA). Proceeds from the annual art auction support these programs. Tickets start at $125.
