The New York Arm Wrestling Association (NYAWA) will present the White Castle 34th Annual Empire State Golden Arm Tournament of Champions on Thursday, November 17, 2011 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the New York City Port Authority Bus Terminal’s North Wing/Main Concourse at 625 8th Avenue. Competition is also open to the public for a $25 entry fee for amateurs and $35 for pros, and includes a free T-shirt. There are right and left hand, male and female, and amateur and pro categories that will be divided into 17 weight classes. Contestants are encouraged to weigh-in and register early. $100 cash prizes and custom medallions and plaques are awarded for first place in each pro weight class, while amateurs will receive gold, silver and bronze medals and plaques only. The day’s overall strongest arms; male and female will be crowned with Empire State MVP awards and an additional $200 in bonus cash prizes. White Castle is sponsoring the event for the eight times. Plus, Joyce Boone from Brooklyn will be honored as the first female 2011 New York State Arm Wrestler of the year for her comeback story from a sustaining a broken arm while arm wrestling on FOX TV live in 1997 to winning the title of 2011 NYC Queen of Arms at the prestigious NYC Big Apple Grapple International last April. Boone was featured in Sports Illustrated ”˜Faces in the Crowd’ for her amazing story, achievement and unprecedented will to win. The Empire State Championships will draw some of the biggest names in the arm wrestling field, including Giorgi Gelashvili from Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn who is considered the best arm wrestler in New York and captured 2011 title of NYC King of Arms. Last year's defending Empire State champions and those who qualified at this year's three preliminary championships are also expected to compete.
