Ice Theatre of New York (ITNY), the nation’s premier ice dance company, honors U.S. Champion and Olympian Johnny Weir at its "Dare To Be Different" 2011 Benefit Gala and Performance on Monday, October 24th.
Margarita Sears and the Will Sears Fund are this year's Ice Angel Award recipient. The Arts and Business Partnership Award recipient is Ice Rink Events.
These festivities inaugurate ITNY’s 2011-2012 anniversary season. The evening will begin with performances by the Ice Theatre of New York and a special appearance by Johnny Weir at Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers, followed by cocktails and a star-studded benefit honoring Johnny Weir at The Lighthouse in Chelsea Piers.
Founded in 1984 by Moira North, Ice Theatre of New York (ITNY) has changed the face of figure skating by creating works that integrate the sensibilities of contemporary dance, music and art. Through its performances in both traditional and alternative venues, ITNY presents on-ice dances that challenge the perceptions and conventional definitions of figure skating.
All of the evening’s proceeds will support ITNY’s New Works and Young Artists Series, an outreach program for public school children in Manhattan and Queens, as well as all of ITNY’s 2011-2012 season's artistic programming.
*Tickets will be at the door for pick-up. Please arrive at Sky Rink by 6:45 p.m. to pick-up your ticket.
