What is Visions Global Empowerment?
Visions Global Empowerment, or Visions for short, is a US-based educational development non-profit that focuses on supporting & developing programs for youth affected by poverty and conflict in South Asia. The organization's founder is a PhD student at Columbia's Teachers College and she started the org roughly 10 years ago. It's definitely grass roots, nothing fancy, and has done some great work over the years, including:
*Annual camps in India (sporadic camps in Sri Lanka during times of peace) teaching students about human rights, leadership, organizational skills & critical thinking;
*Built and launched a 4-story, $100,000+ activities center in Colombo, Sri Lanka in Feb of this year--serving over 300 school girls;
*Financially supporting a number of different educational NGOs committed to providing improved & alternative education to students in need in India & Sri Lanka
