On Wednesday, London took over New York City as Maybourne Hotel Group, which owns and manages Claridge’s, the Connaught and the Berkeley hotels in London, celebrated the best of Britain, hosting a one-night exhibition by Claridge’s fashion artist-in-residence and Vanity Fair contributing editor, David Downton. This event, which took place at The Glass Houses, marked the first time the celebrated fashion illustrator’s sketches have been shown in the United States, and those who attended enjoyed viewing portraits of Sarah Jessica Parker, Hamish Bowles, Diane von Furstenberg, Michelle Dockery and Dita von Teese (all of whom are longtime guests of Claridge’s, Mayfair’s legendary Art Deco gem), among others. Last night, Hole Gallery and The Bowery Hotel were packed with people eager to reminisce over - or experience for the first time - Area, the legendary nightclub from the '80s. The club was a hotbed for the exuberant and uninhibited artistic lifestyle of the era, and drew in all kinds of characters, from Downtown's original rebels to Madonna and Sting. Things got crazy at Hole last night, where Jeffrey Deitch redesigned the space to look like a replica of the '80s hotspot. Glenn O'Brien, Tom Sachs, Chuck Close, Julian Schnabel, Jean Pigozzi and Todd Eberle were just a handful of the art and nightlife elite in attendance to be transported back to 1983. More»

Last night, Giorgio Armani hosted his much buzzed-about One Night Only New York City event at the SuperPier in the Meatpacking District. The star-studded celebration saw many of its over 700 guests wearing Armani themselves, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Hilary Swank, Ricky Martin, Naomi Watts, Renee Zellweger, and Dianna Agron. Besides the presentation of pop up exhibition Eccentrico, which explores Armani's most unusual pieces from 1985 to the present, the night also featured a large scale fashion show exclusively dedicated to the Giorgio Armani Privé collections, as well as a cocktail dînatoire party with DJ set by Mark Ronson. Last night, the stylish set gathered at New York’s Skylight at Moynihan Station to celebrate the Whitney Museum of American Art’s 2013 Gala and Studio Party, in honor of artist Ed Ruscha this year. A-List guests Dianna Agron, Lake Bell and Scott Campbell, Taylor Schilling, Mickey Sumner, Laure Heriard Dubreuil and Aaron Young, Alexa Chung, Olivia Wilde, Hannah Bronfman, Riley Keough, Man Repeller Leandra Medine, Lily Kwong, and Julia Restoin Roitfeld, among many others, showed up to pay homage to the artist. David Byrne took the stage in a surprise performance, singing the crowd favorite “A Road to Nowhere,” rousing the well-heeled dinner guests to their feet.
