The sun is shining, the weather is warm, and it's time to get outside. We know it's easy for New Yorkers to forget Earth Day, regardless, it's time to celebrate! And we don't just mean planting trees--consider supporting our beloved Earth by tasting beer, exercising, or shopping (We have to be different, right?)! More»

On Monday, Matthew Modine and Eric Villency hosted the kickoff party for the upcoming Bicycle for a Day (happening this Saturday), at the showroom of Maurice Villency. BFAD promotes the adoption of alternative transportation, and especially the individual effort required to make it work (we've done our part!). Guests such as Maggie Rizer, Kelly Choi, Simon van Kempen and Alex McCord, Countess LuAnn de Lesseps, Holly Dunlap, Richard Johnson and Sessa von Richtofen, Lara Meiland, Tatiana and Campion Platt, Gloria Reuben, Emma Snowdon-Jones, Blaine Trump, Kimberly Villency, and our Fave Four, Douglas Marshall, Keith Lissner, Devorah Rose and Kim Bates, enjoyed savory organic hors d’oeuvres from Pure Food and Wine and sipped VeeV cocktails and organic wines by Organic Vintages.

All this talk about reducing our carbon foot prints may be paying off. Americans drove 10 billion miles less in the month of May this year! This probably has more to do with gas prices than anything else, but; it's still kindof cool.
Go HERE to calculate how big your own carbon footprint is.

This week's party dress is all about getting your green on! This Ladybell Open-Back Dress by Larsen Gray is inspired by the lovely dresses Rachelle and Claire wore at The Green Party from our favorite eco-tique, Kaight. This little "green" dress is 100% organic cotton and can be accessorized head to toe with other earth-friendly products to create an eco-luxe look! To create a complete outfit that would impress mother earth try a canvas clutch by Beau Soleil, T-Strap Sandals by Corso Como and Alkemie Jewelry, which is forged from 100% reclaimed metals! Très eco-chic!
A local coffee shop branch called Tisserie, attached to the DKNY store on Thompson street in SoHo, not only warms the pastries for you after you order but also uses cups made from corn. The cup company Greenware makes crystal clear cups from a 100% compostable corn biopolymer, in 5 sizes ranging from 7 to 24 ounces.
If you had to guess what a "professor of dirt" does for a living, what would you come up with? A farmer in newly-submerged Iowa...a garbageman with an extreme affinity for his work...a homeless entomologist? Now, the answer is clear. It's the brains behind the Reverse Graffiti Project. Touting their "philosophy of clean" while producing ecologically sound works of art, Green Works has turned the traditional notion of graffiti (social nuisance, indication of community decline) completely on its head to produce what can only be called stunning works of art.
If you're not sure how big your carbon footprint is (just look at the size of your Con Ed bill for July) or you're not sure if you should give up meat to ease up the burden on our environment (just read today's Times), then you can always count on Australian schoolkids to help you make your decision. A bunch of ingenious folks from Oz have devised a game, aptly named Planet Slayer, that would make an insurance adjuster blush: calculate when you "should" expire if you really want to help out humanity. I know, you're an awesome foozball player and have too many Facebook friends to just die, but some people think you're just a drain on precious resources, so give it a spin!
So apparently there is a tomato scare across the country right now, and the city is flipping out even more than America at large, as they are deprived of the T in BLTs, and one of the key ingredients in guacamole. The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes brings us a rare form of salmonella, which didn't prevent me from buying roma tomatoes at D'Agostino's yesterday, though it did prevent me from chancing Chipotle's corn salsa. (If I contract salmonella, I'll let you know.) But it has sparked attention in a home gardening trend!
