The Vanity Fair Young Hollywood Issue: A Revised List

by Chiara Atik · February 2, 2010

Everyone was up in arms yesterday because of the  Vanity Fair's Young Hollywood Issue. Kristen Stewart and Amanda Seyfried were both on the list LAST year...did they really need two years in a row, in lieu of more deserving actresses? Here is who SHOULD have been on the cover...

    -

Kristen Stewart, Amanda Seyfried, and Evan Rachel Wood have been famous FOREVER. Here are the actresses you should really be taking note of:

    Freida Pinto, 25:

She was all over the Oscars last year after playing Latika in Slumdog Millionaire. This year she's been working hard playing the title role in "Miral", and filming "You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger". She's dating the adorable Dev Patel. Freida is stunningly beautiful, and one of the first Indian actresses to have really captured American audiences (besides Parminder Nagra and to some extent Aishwayra Rai.)

    -

    Zoe Kazan, 26

As the granddaughter of Elia Kazan, Zoe has quite the cinematic royal pedigree. But it's hard work, talent, and doing  theater at Yale that has gotten her the attention of casting producers, not just nepotism. Zoe has done a string of well-received movies in the past two years, including "Me And Orson Wells", "Revolutionary Road", "The Private Lives Of Pippa Lee", and most recently, "It's Complicated". She's taking a little break while her newest film is in post-production to try her hand at Broadway, opposite Christopher Walken in "A Beheading In Spokane".

    -

    Selena Gomez, 18:

The adorable, squeaky clean Selena Gomez has won a following from her spunky performance on Wizards of Waverly Place, and she'll be seen next playing Beezus (!!) in the upcoming "Ramona and Beezus" (btw, it's about TIME that came to the silver screen.) While Selena still has some growing up to do in terms of the roles she takes on, it's clear that her charisma is going to make her a big player on the scene in a few years time...

    -

    Gabourey Sidibe, 26:

Vanity Fair editors may have thought Gabourey would stand out in the midst of the porcelain doll photo shoot they did, but Gabourey has been standing out in other ways this year: specifically, by bowling over critics, talkshow hosts, and fans with her out of this world talent and charm. Next up for Gabby is "Yelling To The Sky", which is in post-production, as well as a rumored role on the TV series, "The Big C".  We genuinely cannot wait for this actress to continue to wow us, and we'd LOVE to see her on the cover of Vanity Fair.

    -

    Charlyne Yi, 23

Charlyne Yi is the epitome of Hipster Chic, and whether you think that's annoying or hot, it definitely makes for a nice change to the blonde-haired, blue-eyed glamorous waif that pouts for the camera. Even cooler, Charlyne wrote Paper Heart, which proves she's got writing chops as well as acting chops.

    -

    Zoe Saldana, 32

Zoe Saldana was considered by many to be THE breakout star of the year, with lead roles in two huge hits--Avatar and Star Trek. If they excluded her because of her age, then Vanity Fair should definitely broaden their definition of "young", especially with so many actresses nominated for an Oscar this year who are over 40 years old.

Zoe is next gonna be seen in the remake of "Death At A Funeral", and will then be in the next Star Trek movie.

Who are some other worth actresses that Vanity Fair overlooked? Tell us in the comments!
