Daily Style Phile: Alexa Winner

Nov 3, 2010 3:39 PM

We couldn't help but notice that Alexa Winner is everywhere these days: Metalball at MoMA, Love Magazine's Party, the Angel Ball, and the Ferragamo party to name a few. In between party hopping, the recent Parsons Grad is writing a book on style in the New York Social Scene, which means it's time for us to take a look at what she herself is wearing while out and about.-

Alexa has a passion for  styling, as evidenced by the eclectic and glamorous outfits she puts together for herself while attending events around town. She was an Integrated Design major at Parsons, which meant studying shoe, accessory and textile design. This appreciation for accessories and textiles is evident in all of her evening looks: no dress is complete with out a little accessorizing, whether it be a hat, a ribbon, or a corset. One things for certain: girl loves a Harley Davidson Tee, and a good Cuff.

For the recent Museo del Barrio Benefit, Alexa eschewed the Halloween/Day Of The Dead theme for an art-deco metalic halter with jaw-dropping backline, and, for a little extra oomph, a black fascinator in her hair, and an arm band cut from the same material as her dress. She lost the glamour and kept the drama for a Stylecaster shoot: a Harley Davidson tee, ripped jeans, and a neck cuff.

Here, pictured at Metalball, she accessorized her LBD with a black fedora and, barely visible in the photograph, a (leather?) corset around her middle.

At a recent event at the Ferragamo store, Alexa wore a praire style, full length dress, paired with a pale green stone necklace matched almost perfectly to her nail polish. And, at the Giorgio Gucci Gala in late September, she accessorized her white dress with matching hair ribbon to tie her hair back.

Other looks for Alexa: super short shorts paired with knee-high boots, a belt, and a jacket; on the right, a dress so heavily embellished with ribbons and flowers and gold lamé that even Alexa decided to go easy on the accessories.

So, the girl pulls out all the stops for a night on the town, but what does she wear while on vacation?

Cut off shorts, flip flips, and a tshirt, just like everyone else. Hey, even stylists have to take a break sometime.

I am very shocked and disappointed at all of the negative comments about Alexa. Alexa treats people respect and has a calm cool and collected dignity that is surprising only because she also knows how to let loose and have fun. Making negative comments about a beautiful, intelligent and caring woman like Alexa is likely the result of jealousy or lack of information. Therefore we should feel bad for such people, wish them well and move on. To negatively attack someone anonymously is weak. Alexa is an intelligent and talented down-to-earth girl who has the confidence to speak her mind. Yet she is always positive and fun and these are just some of the great things that make people want to spend time with her. Her understanding and appreciation of the details inherent in modern fashion is obvious. Rock on Alexa!

No doubt, she dresses amazingly. Yet, no one has noticed how alarmingly thin she is? It's almost distressing to look at.

All childish gossip aside- I am all for taking fashion risks, and acknowledge some of her successes and her clear deeper understanding and appreciation for a culture within fashion- but after doing some googling ("research"), I am still unsure who coined this fashionista as a "stylist".. I see her skills are even being auctioned off for an upcoming charity event under the title of "celebrity stylist"- can any of these celebrities be confirmed?

So she is talented and fashionable. Big freaking deal. So are many, MANY other people out there just as talented. But Alexa is just a spoiled brat. Bottom line: Alexa is rich and therefore connected. If she had the same talent and half the money she was born with, there wouldn't be any articles written about her here. Don't care how great she looks, but it's true. If she wasn't born rich, we wouldn't know who she was.

Manhattanite: This fashionista is not a rich socialite, other bloggers write that she has moved here for school and seems to be "recreating" herself by being over exposted and titling herself as a "celeb stylist" The book writing thing seems sociopathic. I checked her website and that confirms this- she has a chaotic website where I can not tell who she is or what she really does still, besides being a fashionista student. My suggestion to her would be to actually style a celeb before auctioning off your "skills" for charity as a celeb stylist, and perhaps leave the book writing to people who have a real story and insight to this city (and have lived here longer than 4 years of school).

hi bluejeans! you can check out my new site which should be coming up later next week. MAAAYBE you should spend a little less time researching me and a little more time doing something good in the world. and by the way, if you did research, i've styled many celebrities, and non celebrities, im very up to date with politics, and really dont feel the need to waste my time proving that to you. please find another interest - if your going to waste your time thinking about me and writing things, why dont you meet me and i will happily take you to lunch to disprove your theories. xoxo alexa

Alexa- I look forward to seeing the new site. Thank you for being upfront and a real human being.. that is rare and I appreciate it. I do not go out much but I am addicted to keeping up to date online with "who to watch"types. My husband and I are very involved in various charities, so I was interested when I saw the auction information online. Therefor, all I was trying to find out was which notables you have styled? I do not work in the world of gossip, so I guess I am a "good doer".. but who doesn't love the internet! Good Luck. Please don't misread my notes, as I give you "props" for being fashionably out of the box and following your heart. Just be careful you don't run before you can walk, this city is cruel to those who speak a lot but at the end of the day have little to show.

alexa is not rich, nor a brat. she's hard working and ambitious. i went to parsons with her. here's the deal. she stood out. talented and smart, along with being cute. add it all together and i guess that equals the girl you love to hate. too bad negatice comments like this have to exist. if you had the pleasure of knowing her, like i do you would be pleasantly surprised at how incorrect all the negative comments are. how cool to have such a talent and make a living at what you adore. my classmates and i knew she would succeed. that does not come easy, especially getting into and graduating parsons!

I wasn't aware that non-rich people could afford lavish parties at Butter and 1OAK, a collection of dresses she designed "bankrolled by her parents", an expensive designer closet as seen on StyleLikeu and StyleCaster, and could collect shoes that she has been quoted as not even wearing.

Manhattanite- some people collect art, some people collect cars that they do not drive, and others collect clothes. Vintage clothes do not need to be that expensive (side note).. its how you put it together. Clubs like butter/one oak do promotional events for free all the time, so you can't assume that these parties are financed by the host.

manhattanite...this illusion of spoiled rich girl is jusy that, an illusion. the only thing financed big time was her education. we all experienced that at parsons. she is just that, a collector. i'm with blue jeans on that one. what's your problem? quit looking at the dollars and focus on nothing more than talent! thats all this article is about.
