Daily Style Phile: Coco Young, Laid Back Chic

by Anna Lombardi · April 21, 2011

Sometimes people just make style seem effortless, and that is exactly the case of Coco Young. At just 21 Coco has taken the fashion world and the streets of New York by storm with her down-to-earth attitude and laid back chic fashion sense. We take a look at the muse of Ryan McGinley and Marc Jacobs.

    Career

Coco's break came when Ryan McGinley personally requested to work with her on several fashion projects in 2008. That following year she starred in KT Auleta's short film Run Around, had her portrait done by John Currin featured in the Metropolitan Opera Gallery and walked in the Marc Jacobs Fall 2010 show all before being signed with a major agency!

    Her Style

Coco's style is all her own, don't expect this fashion forward girl to be spending hours getting ready in the morning. She is a self described "sleeper" so when it comes to getting ready in the morning, she does not have a lot of time. Think more is less. She describes her style as so,

"I go through phases when I wear the same thing over and over again. Right now, I'm really into this vintage Bauhaus T-shirt that I inherited from an ex-boyfriend. I like when things are worn out and have a soul, a history. I also have a big crush on my American flag Converse that I found at a thrift store in Paris." [via]

    Her Appeal

It's obvious that Coco had one lucky year in 2008, but what really sets her apart is her down to earth personality. When asked what she would be doing if she weren't modeling she answered,

"It would pretty much be the same. I would still be painting and taking pictures and writing letters and postcards and novellas and going to galleries and museums and reading in the park and walking around New York and riding my bike and daydreaming and going to White Slab bar with my lovely friends and chatting on the telephone and watching films and eating good food." Looking Ahead

You know that your future in fashion is bright when Marc Jacobs is calling you his muse, and while there is no doubt that Coco will take the fashion world by storm with her work in front of the camera, she is also getting behind the lens and pursuing her passion of photography. Last night her photos were featured at Milk Underground for their bi-annual group show. Nobody does New York's girl next door like Coco does. We are looking forward to watching her make her imprint in the face of fashion.
