On Friday, the festival kicked off with a handful of can't miss performances. At Output, Safer At Night's Cranks got the night started in a big way; the producer was dropping big deep house cuts right away to put everyone in the right mood. Under-the-radar music label White Material hosted a showcase at Villain, where they introduced their mostly vinyl-only songs to a hooked audience. The big headlining performance of the night was by Booka Shade at Music Hall of Williamsburg. The duo had an elaborate stage setup with live drums that they pounded on all night. The crowd was swept up immediately, as they played their unmistakable hit "In White Rooms" early on and continued with one of the most fun sets of the festival. Galantis [Galantis]
