Thanks in part to our Purell nation, peanut, shellfish, lactose and gluten allergies have become so prevalent, there's a ball to benefit research and awareness.  Both Emeril Lagasse, and Charles Koppelman, the chairman of Martha Stewart Omnimedia, were recognized for their achievements and dedication.  Chaired by Mary Richardson Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Julia Koch, Sharyn Mann, Todd Slotkin, and Patricia and James Cayne, the event drew a host of notable New Yorkers offering support to those affected by various food allergies.

Thanks in part to our "Purell nation"???? There is no proof on the "hygiene hypothesis" of food allergy. No one knows what is causing it. What a lame way to start off a story on a great event.
