Gawker had a party last night for its new "NSFW" art, so naturally they hired a stripper dressed like Hitler for the occasion. And, by "dressed like Hitler", we mean wearing a Hitler mustache, a six pack thing, and very little else.-

In addition to the usual crowd/hummus/beers, this particular Art@Gawker party featured art that ranged from the provocative to the illicit (An Amanda Lepore portrait, for instance, and some kind of dildo-esque glass sculpture that people were thrilled to pose next to all night.)
The stripper seems to have been a not unwelcome surprise, but if things got a little raucous last night, all traces of debauchery were gone by Friday morning.
@blakeley Nobody would guess there was a Hitler stripper performing at Gawker last night judging by how clean the office is today.
We have one question thought...why where there so many dogs?? (And yes, we're referring to four-legged creatures.) Can anyone answer that for us?

Seriously, the fact that the man is cradling a tiny dog is weirder than the statue.

Hey Chiara, Im DeeDee Luxe the PERFORMER that portrayed Hitler at the Gawker party the other night. I am a professional performer hired by the Box for the event, that you refer to numerous times as a stripper. Get your facts straight if you consider yourself a "writer". Not all female PERFORMERS are strippers as you like to say. Go back to Idaho or wherever your from that hates women. www.DeeDeeLuxe.com

I am a fan of DeeDee luxe and was surprised to read this article, you are obviously closed minded and sexist she is a talented performer who is dedicated to her art form. It is not just an insult to her but others in her profession, get a life or at least a job you capable of doing!

Wait, I'm confused...you get hired out by people to show up at parties with no pants on? Okay, sure, you're a performer, but po-tay-toes po-tah-toes.

DeeDee, While Chiara may have been slightly glib in referring to you as a "stripper," it's worth noting that @blakeley (who, if I'm not mistaken, is some important guy at Gawker and was certainly at the party) refers to you as a "stripper" in his tweet. Since Chiara's job is to cover the party, it seems she was doing her job by speaking to people who attended the party. And because said attendees referred to you as a "stripper," it seems reasonable for her to refer to you as such, even if you find the title misleading or demeaning. Perhaps the problem is not with Chiara's writing but is a more general problem with the public perception of erotic art and performance. Also, I looked at your website, and your performance is primarily driven by eroticism and involves wearing little (or no) clothing. So, while your brand of erotic performance may be more high-brow than the average pole dancer's, it doesn't seem totally inaccurate to refer to you as a stripper. Which brings me to my final point, which is ... aren't all strippers really performers? As I mentioned, you may have more lofty artistic goals, but isn't it more-than-slightly pretentious to claim that you are a "performer" and therefore superior to "strippers"? There is a sort of paradox to your argument, especially if you are going assert that Chiara is a woman-hater because she refers to you as a stripper. Doesn't that imply that being a stripper is inherently degrading? --prof elk

Cyrus...It said a "stripper' dressed like Hitler was hired", not a performer... The first Gawker article did not offend me...as I am making fun of Hitler as if he were a chippendale sort of dancer, it is supposed to be comical. It seemed they got that. Blakeleys comment did not offend me. I found it funny. I did not show up with no pants on, please nini. It seems Chiara took things out of context and ran with it. I just dont appreciate that it seems that when a woman gets naked or slightly scandalous she is called a stripper. But, if I were a man, it would be considered comedy or art. Plus, i did not even get naked. I am in no way superior to a 'stripper', and dont believe that so called 'strippers' like to be referred to as strippers either. Or basically as u imply pole slingers. As in todays world, its unfortunately a job that by most is looked down on and has become a derogatory term. I do not look down on exotic dancers in any way. I happen to love them! But, as implanted in Chiaras article it certainly sounded like a diss. Therefore myself and "strippers" as u call them, should all be offended. Good luck with your lofty goals. I can have an opinion and express it, especially when it is directed towards me. My letter was addressed to her not you anyway.

listen you overeducated self righteous bafoons, you clearly have no connection to our world I live in San fran and most of my friends work in the adult industry and they/ we do not refer to one another as strippers you need to stop thinking of ways to elevate youselves above others and realize your jobs exist because of interesting people not because you are at all interesting.... You are not.

DeeDee: I, of course, understand that your original comments were directed at Chiara, not at me. However, to quote you, "I can have an opinion and express it." The reason your comment provoked me to write a response was that, when dealing with an issue as volatile as modern feminism, I think it behooves everybody involved to avoid reckless name-calling (e.g. "Go back to Idaho or wherever your [sic] from that hates women") and baseless accusations. What exactly about Chiara's piece leads you to believe that she is being derogatory? Cheeky, yes. Clearly she thought the party was bizarre, and the presence of a woman "wearing a Hitler mustache, a six pack thing, and very little else" would seem to support that thesis, whether the woman is a stripper, a performer, or anything else. I believe you are reading too much into Chiara's use of the word "stripper." Frankly, I got the feeling that Chiara was amused and intrigued by the whole thing, not disgusted. Perhaps it is more accurate to refer to you as a performer; there's certainly a convincing argument to be made. However, it seems you made a big leap of judgement in assuming that Chiara hates women. I think that on a basic philosophical level, I agree with your viewpoints on feminism and its application to erotic performance. However, it's just this kind of rash response that turns people off to your point of view. Finally, you might be right about the double standard for men and women. However, speaking of double standards, I'm still confused about why it is "funny" and inoffensive when Blakeley refers to you as a stripper, but it is somehow a smear against women when Chiara does (probably choosing her diction based on Blakeley's comment). Back to pursuing my lofty goals. Where's that bag of weed ...? prof. elk

Well, Cyrus, Finally someone has a sense of humor- (your bag of weed reference)... I was very put off by the article, and for obvious reasons...come on now... I have been a trained performer working and supporting myself as such for years in the industry of live entertainment. I and many others I know have had to deal with the 'double standards' issued to us as women. I found it offensive to be spoken about as.. "the stripper this.. the stripper that"... Very de-humanizing, can you imagine? I do happen to have a name, whether she knew it or not, she knew I was a performer hired for the event. Blakeley said "'Hitler' stripper' or "'Hitler clad' performer' (a character).. not a "stripper for hire.' I didnt hear him refer to me as such as an 'object' as she did, but, referring to my 'character'. As opposed to being stated and titled even in the article by Chiara. I have a career, and that is not it.. So, really there is a significant difference. I was mis-represented. Also, no "stripper"(exotic dancer) I know would stand for such reference.. Its like using the 'N' word. It is very derogatory. I personally was hoping Chiara would be the bigger person and say..."woops" and maybe learn something from it. She appears to be a new 'journalist'. There is nothing wrong with being and 'exotic dancer' or etc. and people who choose to do so should have the right to be proud of their career choice. I personally was mis-represented in not just an article, but the headline of an article. Publicity and word of mouth is mostly how I get my work and make my living. So it is necessary for me to make a clear defining line between the two. I found it careless and irresponsible for a 'journalist' to write in this manner. Also, uncool to have all of her co-workers and/or friends try and gang up on me and make fun of me, please. I know I was not kind in my first response in relation to being a 'woman hater'-( i do not know her) I was clearly on the defense. So, thank you for your follow up letter. Its all supposed to be fun and good. I had a blast at the Gawker party, and hope to run into you and many of the other cool peeps I met at the party at one of my shows, or any other event. Lets be on the same team this/next time! P.s. good luk with that bag o' weed prof elk! :)

sorry, but if you take off your clothes for money you are a stripper- whether male or female. It's sad that as a woman, in your case, you need to make money in such a degrading way that is quite frankly insulting to other women and actually furthers the objectifying of women by men. You're not helping women by doing what you are doing but you are providing a cheap thrill for the men watching you. Sometimes it just is what it is. You can call it whatever you want.
