[All photos by Chance Yeh for PMc] Last Friday evening, Philip Glass hosted a concert at Carnegie Hall in benefit of Tibet House US. Patti Smith, Gogol Bordello, Tenzin Kunsel, Iggy Pop, Regina Spektor, and Bajah+the Dry Eye Crew were among the highlights of the line-up.-
The concert was followed by a fundraising reception with the Honorary Chairpersons and artists at Gotham Hall. The Tibet House Benefit Concert has been held at Carnegie Hall for the past 20 years, to raise funds for the promotion and preservation of Tibetan culture throughout the US. The Tibet House itself is a 7,000 square foot space which includes a gallery, a Tibetan Buddhist shrine, and a lending library.
Patti Smith and Michael Stipe, by the way, are Buddhist, not that being a practicing member of that religion is the only reason to want to protect and promote Tibetan culture. Just a tidbit there.
