Tavi Gevinson, the precocious teenage fashion maven, made her singing debut at The Standard Hotel East Village last night for the premiere of her newest film, CADAVER.  The style starlet crooned Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold” to a delighted audience, comprised of friends, colleagues, and family members of Ms. Gevinson and the director, Jonah Ansell.

Neil Young rarely grants other artists permission to use his music, so due credit should be given to the charms of young Tavi and the talents of Mr. Ansell, who both received wild applause after the conclusion of the animated film, which co-starred Kathy Bates and Christopher Lloyd as a corpse seeking to reunite with his living wife.

In the spirit of the occasion, The Standard East Village was transformed into a kind of ghastly fun house. Guests sipped cocktails from beakers brewed by lab-coated mixologists, munched on freshly made popcorn and cotton candy, and posed for photographs with the many skeletons scattered throughout the lounge.

After the screening, DJ Martial took to the turntable, and guests danced until 2:00 a.m., when director Jonah Ansell reclaimed the microphone for a last round of thanks. “If you’re under 16, I think it’s past your bedtime,” he joked, gesturing to Tavi and her teenage coterie, who could have danced all night were it not for the parents waiting on the sidelines.

Adding to the mischief of the midnight hour, a style.com reporter walked out of The Standard East Village with the producer’s purse and the leather jacket of another guest, who accosted the writer on the street and demanded the unofficial “swag bag” be returned. Was it a theft or an intoxicated misunderstanding? Security resolved the issue, and no charges were pressed.
