The 2011 Whitney Studio Party Honors Calvin Tomkins

Last night, the Whitney Museum of American Art and Studio Party Chair members hosted the annual Galla & Studio Party at the Hudson River Park's Pier 57.Chair members include Valerie Boster, Georgina Chapman, Martin Dawson, Amanda Hearst, Miranda Kerr, Karolina Kurkova, Nate Lowman, Michelle Monaghan, Dalia Oberlander, and Naomi Watts.

The Whitney Studio Party always has a few surprises - in years past they've ranged from tan twins Donatella and Lindsey billing and cooing to a barely clothed and barely legal Taylor Momsen preforming a special set. Last night's big surprise may have been the location - eschewing its tony traditional digs on east 72nd St, the museum payed homage to the forthcoming Whitney Downtown with a party on the pier. Complete with portapotties. Really.

This year’s Gala honored New Yorker art writer Calvin Tomkins for his lifetime achievements.

The event brought out artists from the worlds of fashion, art and cinema. Dinner guests included Chuck Close, Tim Armstrong, Chris Benz, Yigal Azrouel, Chris Lidell, Coco Rocha, Tinsley Mortimer, Heide Lindgren, Lorenzo Martone, Adam Weinberg, China Chow, John Legend, Christine Teigen, Julie Henderson, Ariel Meredith, Bettina Prentice, Elizabeth Kurpis, Dodie Kazanjian, Adam Weinberg, Richard Kirshenbaum, Georgina Chapman, Bar Refaeli, Keren Craig, Robert Hurst, Brooke Neidich, Neil Bluh, Brooke Geahan, Edward Chapman, Yvonne Force Villareal, Glenn Fuhrman, Carlos Huber, Victoria Alexander, Lisa Anastos, Yaz Hernandez, Andrew Bevan, Scott Lipps, Carol Han, Kristian Laliberte, Charlotte Ronson and many more.

Scenesters like Teen Vogue's Andrew Bevan, Amanda Hearst, Scott Lipps, Bar Rafeli, dj duo Andrew Andrew, Carol Han, Kristian Laliberte, and Charlotte Ronson were joined by an older set shelling out serious donations for the dinner portion of the evening. AOL's Tim Armstrong was on hand and former GM CFO Chris Lidell and wife Renee were on their way out before glitter exploded from the ceiling and guests grabbed bottles of champagne for some on the floor boozing. Questlove dj'ed the evening and and rumored LaLohan paramore Vikram Chatwal of the Dream Hotel Downtown circled the room with a beturbanded man who was a dead ringer for usual art world hanger-on Waris Ahluwalia.
