Richard Branson launched  Project, his iPad magazine yesterday and threw a bash at the Royalton to celebrate. He's not worried about Rupert Murdoch's rival iPad pub The Daily. He's used to competition. Promo girls in red dresses walked around with iPads as large screens flashed versions of the first edition with Jeff Bridges on the cover. Branson ducked out of the party early to fly to Dallas, more than likely on his own luxurious private jet.

Thousands braved the packed streets and were herded like tiny elves around blockades and down blocks to get as close as possible to the tree and the entertainment. Mariah Carey spread the X-Mas joy with her performance, Jessica Simpson snuggled up to fiance Eric Johnson and Boyz II Men got caught lip synching.
