Afternoon Snack: Coffee And Vegemite

[Afternoon Snack]

Vegemite...MMMMM.....I finally get the chance to try that delectable Australian spread that I've been hearing so much about. Except it's not "MMMMM"...It tastes like shit. Sorry but it does. Now I'm starting to wonder how Kraft, the same brand that was there for so many of my fondest of childhood memories revolving around food, could betray me in such a horrible manner. The same company that brought me Oscar Mayer, Jell-O, Kool-ade, Easy Mac, Velveeta, Miracle Whip, Tombstone pizza, A1 sauce, Oreo's, Ritz, TANG! for god's sakes!!! The company that is in a large part responsible for helping me to acquire such a muted palate that has allowed me to effortlessly eat my way through anything presented (a skill I'm sure will come in handy when the next black out occurs).

For those of you that don't know, Vegemite is the Australian equivalent to our Peanut Butter....Except it tastes like barf in a jar. Maybe, as all you Aussies insist, I will start acquiring a taste for this brown vile, until then, I will stick to just coffee for my afternoon snack. And what coffee this is!! Don Maco is the best coffee in the world. Coming straight from the hills of Guatemala and owned by my very own friends, this stuff makes our "Folgers" seem like water. It's good to have friends in this business... now I just wish I had a glass of powdered Tang and some "ants on a log" to complete my snack.

ok, wait. you have to eat it right. first toast a piece of bread on low for a long time so it's very crispy but not burnt. then rub a piece of raw garlic on the toast - it sort of disintegrates into the little wholes and infuses its stink. then melt a big pat of butter all over it. then spread a thin layer of vegemite on top of that. i haven't done this in a long time. and i was a hippy when i last did, so i'm not promising anything but i used to eat the crap out of it.
