High Times' Stony Awards 2008: Who Is the Highest of Them All?

Forget the Oscars, Golden Globes and VMAs, the most anticipated and prestigious awards event of the year for the potheads of Hollywood is The High Times 2008 Stony Awards in Malibu, California on September 27, 2008. The High Times' crew will be hosting the "highest" bevy of celebs and artists to honor Hollywood's most esteemed stoner moments of the year.

This year's nominees include Pineapple Express, Superbad, Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay, Surfer, Dude and Strange Wilderness for Best Comedy Film. No surprises in this category, but who will take home the Stony? It's a tough call, but Pineapple Express and Harold & Kumar are the obvious top picks in my book.

Then there's the most coveted Stony Award: Stoner and Stonette of the Year. Will it be Mary-Kate Olsen for her role as the Church-going stoner in Weeds or Paris Hilton for her performance in Internet Video? MK gets our vote; it's a tough job, but she pulled it off as a bible-thumping pothead. Stoner of the Year nominees include Matthew McConaughey, James Franco, Kal Penn, Woody Harrelson and Josh Peck. Who is the highest stoner of them all?

Amongst the bold-faced stoner celebs, NYC's very own Purple Foam, the duo of Liam McMullan and the new Izzy Gold, is up for Best Song of the Year. AND, they're performing their song, Solomon [Gonna Make It Alright] AT the actual awards ceremony. I caught up with Purple Foam the other day after they received the exciting news. Izzy Gold exclaimed, "I called Liam and woke him up. I told him I have the best wake up call for you ever, you’ve just been nominated for a Stony Award by High Times and performing in Malibu.” The duo can't hide their excitement and as Liam puts it, “I never would have imagined; it’s surpassed my HIGHEST expectations”
